CFD Brings Home the NASCAR Pit Crew
Challenge Award
Charlotte
Firefighters put on a show when they competed in the 2011 NASCAR
Sprint Media & Public Safety Pit Crew Challenge. CFD overpowered
their CMPD opponents in the first two rounds to storm into the
finals. The championship round pitted CFD -vs- WCCB Fox
Charlotte who had defeated CBS Radio to get into the
championship round. The WCCB Fox 18 Team was well rested and may
have had a little advantage, since CFD had very little time to
recover before the championship round, but CFD prevailed and
crossed the finish line first to claim the championship.
Team members included Battalion 1 C Chief Kent Davis, Captain
Jimmy Watts, Engineer Jerry Taylor, and firefighters Lee Powell,
Kemp Rasmussen, Andy Simpson, & Brent Blumberg.

Arson
During the early morning hours of Thursday, April 22nd,
firefighters from Battalion
I and Battalion III battled a two-story balloon-framed residence
fire that was intentionally set. On arrival, crews found the
2-story home heavily involved with fire extending throughout the
walls and floors. Firefighters were hampered in their efforts to
extinguish the fire on the second floor due to the interior
